Vim really rocks. Often people don’t believe that an editor that looks so “old school” can be effective. It’s really hard to explain. The best way to explain that is seeing Vim in action. Have a look at vimcasts.org for some good screencasts.
What I like most in Vim: It’s fast. No waiting for anything. Neither for starting nor when working with it.
The biggest disadvantage for Vim users: When you need to use other editors you start to type weired characters like “:wq” ;-) This often happens to me when working in my colleagues machines using Notepad++…
